Shadow work, parts work, and inner child work are different names for the same understanding: that there are many parts living inside of you. These approaches are rooted in radical acceptance, a way of understanding your inner world so you can stop fighting yourself.

Often, before someone begins a healing journey, they’re suffering without knowing why. They may be unconsciously denying parts of themselves; their anger, confusion, unworthiness, sensitivity, or even their brilliance. This denial isn’t a failure; it’s protective. But over time, it can create pain, disconnection, and a sense of being stuck.

Shadow work gently says: let me show you why you’re hurting.
It guides you inward, into the subconscious, to meet the younger or hidden parts of you that are holding pain. Instead of running from emotions like anger or shame, this work invites you to turn toward them, to meet them with curiosity, understand their role, and give them a voice.

Through this process, you begin to see where your emotions and patterns come from. And with understanding comes the possibility of acceptance. The goal of parts work isn’t to fix or eliminate any part of you, but to radically accept what you find. Because acceptance is the natural progression out of denial, and there is far more relief in acceptance than in continuing to fight yourself.

It’s natural to feel hesitant about turning toward what’s been pushed away. These parts were hidden for a reason. But when they’re met slowly, with safety and support, the process becomes less overwhelming than imagined. Over time, people often feel lighter, more integrated, and more at ease with their inner world.

At its core, shadow work is about integrating the parts of ourselves we’ve rejected, judged, or couldn’t see. As we heal our relationship with ourselves, we naturally begin to show up more authentically and compassionately. In our own lives and in relationship with others.

The process itself is simple, even if it’s not always easy. We notice the trigger. We find the wound beneath it. And we gently explore the beliefs, judgments, and resistance around it. Much like learning to be in relationship with yourself in a new way. It’s about learning how to stay with uncomfortable feelings, discovering the strength that comes from being present with discomfort rather than avoiding it.

This is where bodywork can be a powerful support. By noticing breath, sensation, and the body’s responses, and through gentle touch or somatic awareness, the body can help release tension, stored emotions, and patterns you may not consciously recognize. The body becomes an ally in the integration process.

And if you’re not drawn to exploring the psyche and your inner workings, holosomatic bodywork can also stand on its own. It offers a complete and powerful way to support regulation, embodiment, and release. Without needing to analyze or explain.

Ultimately, this work is about learning to stay with yourself. About choosing, again and again, not to abandon any part of your experience. Through radical acceptance of what is, space naturally opens for things to soften, shift, and integrate. Until more of life begins to feel met with care, presence, and love.

You need to feel it to heal it.
